As the summer wraps up, the CampDoc.com team is working as hard as ever to make sure that campers and staff are as healthy and as safe as possible while they are away at camp.

Since the summer of 2015, CampDoc.com has offered a protection plan, and while we receive tons of great feedback on this service, earlier this month we received an email from Kathy, a parent who sends her daughter off to camp each summer in Boston. While most camps and families recognize the risks of going to camp and the benefits of a cost-effective protection plan, we often give rehearsed bullet points about the cancellation and interruption benefits and first payer coverage with no deductibles for emergency medical expenses.

Kathy’s email meant a lot to us, and with her permission, we wanted to share her message with you too. We figured it would be better to share a real story, from a real parent, than to hear an elevator pitch from us.

Dear CampDoc.com,

I wanted to let you know that you have done something wonderful with the CampDoc.com registration process.

I was using your system to fill out details about my daughter, including health and health insurance related things. I was sort of tearing my hair out because the health insurance part has always been tricky.

My daughter has health insurance, but it doesn’t cover anything outside of the state. I like to be cautious, so over the past few years I’ve been taking out travel insurance that has coverage for medical and accident things. But that too is tricky, and has been getting trickier, with all sorts of rules that leaves her out. Most policies have restrictions…

  • Only for travel to places outside the US
  • Only for Americans who reside abroad and are traveling to places in the US
  • Only if the destination is X number of miles from your house ﴾the insurance I found last year required travel less than 100 miles, and we live 101.18 miles from camp)
  • Only covers standard activities (and many outdoor camp activities like water skiing, archery or kayaking are not covered)

It became sillier and sillier, and my daughter and I were Googling all sorts of things, and pouring over the details of what companies offered. Then….BLISS…

I FINALLY read the whole CampDoc.com registration section and saw that you had thought of this very thing, and had it right there, so that we could buy a protection plan should we want to or need to.

Thank you so much. That was so thoughtful and so intelligent. So kind. I was really beginning to think I would never find insurance to cover my daughter’s time at camp, and as someone who just scrapes by, the risk of having to pay just for an admission to an ER makes me worried. The last thing I want is for my daughter to feel that she shouldn’t go to camp because of such worries. Her two weeks at camp are the thing that she looks forward to all year. So, thank you, thank you. I do hope that you continue to offer this through CampDoc.com. It is invaluable to people like me and my daughter.

Yours,

Kathy

As we continue to provide this optional benefit for families, saving them time and frustration, and giving them peace of mind against unknown risks while their campers are away at camp, Kathy said it best when she told us:

With the CampDoc.com protection plan I do not have to worry about possible financial repercussions should my daughter get sick or injured at camp. Perhaps better yet, I know that my daughter doesn’t have to worry. Young people these days have enough concerns, and for her to be free of these worries while she is at her camp is priceless.

Over 5,000 families have purchased protection plans through CampDoc.com during the summer of 2017, and we are so glad to share this one story with you. If you have a CampDoc.com story to share shoot us message!
