ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN, September 26, 2018 — September is National Preparedness Month, and CampDoc.com, the leading electronic health record system for camps, announces the release of its Emergency Plan communication tool.

National Preparedness Month, a campaign sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) within the Department of Homeland Security, is an opportunity to remind camps to prepare for any kind of disaster or emergency..

Following the release of their text message alert tool earlier this year, which allows camps to easily send mass notifications and emergency communications to their families and staff, CampDoc.com is continuing its mission to improve the health and safety at camp with a new Emergency Plan communication tool.

The American Camp Association requires that accredited camps establish emergency procedures, but a 2017 study published in the Southern Medical Journal, Assessing Disaster Preparedness Among Select Children’s Summer Camps in the United States and Canada, concluded that the majority of camps are missing critical components of disaster planning which could prevent them from ensuring the safety of their campers during a disaster.  The study also found that disaster plans often failed to account for children with special needs or medical needs, and did not have methods for the safe reunification of campers and caregivers.

“Establishing an emergency procedure for your camp is critical, but effectively communicating these procedures to your camp families and staff is just as important,” said Dr. Michael Ambrose, Owner and Director of CampDoc.com.  “We are excited that our Emergency Plan tool will help camps think more critically about their disaster and emergency planning, and put these plans directly in front of camp families and staff.”

The Emergency Plan tool from CampDoc.com allows camps to easily plan and communicate three critical components of disaster and emergency planning: Communication, Evacuation & Reunification, and Emergency Authorities.

CampDoc.com is the most comprehensive solution to help ensure the health and safety of children while they are away at camp.  In addition to the Emergency Plan communication tool, the CampDoc.com suite includes its flagship electronic health record, as well as free online registration, travel and emergency medical protection, discounted camp medical supplies, text message alerts, and CampGrams, a one-way camp email communication tool.

Camps interested in using the CampDoc.com Emergency Plan tool should visit www.campdoc.com or contact CampDoc.com for more information.
